Then after the tragedy of 9/11 I immediately started wincing when these new artsy-fartsy proposals started coming in for the WTC site. It gave that image of "hey we're America the richest nation on earth you cocksuckers". The twin towers were grey, domineering, and imposing. I don't want the twin towers back for their architectural merit per se but the fact that they were a symbol of American economic might.
